August 2005

I am not too sure if many our our website visitors are aware but, an ad hoc group of the BV Reiners have been working together to get the ball rolling to host an AQHA sanctioned, APHA sanctioned, ApHA sanctioned and Open Breed Horse Show for July 2006.

A number of us felt that it was time for us to contribute our time and efforts towards a summer show for the Northern Saddle Club and we were feeling so ambitious, we thought, lets have a breed show where competitors can gain some points from their respective breed association.   It has been a number of years since an AQHA show has been held in the Bulkey Valley and we would like to reintroduce it the north once again.   We have been quite blessed with APHA and ApHA shows in Terrace and Smithers and are hoping the addition of AQHA classes will expand the excitement and intrigue of the the Northern Saddle Club Summer Show for Smithers.

At the time of writing this update, a letter has been forwarded to the Northern BC Quarterhorse Association to request approval for the third weekend of July 2006 to host this event.  As an AQHA date is typically the hardest date to secure, we felt that we would apply for this date from AQHA first and then once approval is given, we will apply to APHA and ApHA for date approval for this same weekend.   Further to the date request, sponsorship letters have been forward to our corporate community, namely such businesses as CANFOR, Eskay Creek Mine, Frontier Chrysler, Bulkley Valley Credit Union and Alcan-Kitimat.   We are hopeful that these companies will partner NSC so to off-set some of the expenses so that we can keep costs at a reasonable rate so to encourage our northern riders to participate in this event.

We have set up an ad hoc committee based on community and are absolutely interested in having interested individuals bring their names forward to assist us with the planning for this event.  The committee participants at this time are:

Reka Shippers - Smithers
Jessica Mikolayczyk - Hazelton
Bibs Dallaire - Houston
Roxy Plugoer - Topley
Barb Bowerbank - Burns Lake

If you would like to participate with this planning committee, please email Jessica at jmikolayczyk@bulkley.net and you will get added to the planning committee and regular updates will be provided as they become available.
